Candy Lane

While we were visiting Larry's family in Pennsylvania, we took Ava to Candy Lane at Hershey Park. Although it was extremely cold, Ava enjoyed the music and rides. However, her favorite part seemed to be looking at all the Christmas lights. First, Krista took Ava on the merry-go-round.

Next Larry took her on the kiddy cars. Ava picked the fire truck.

Her favorite part was pushing the button to beep the horn.

Here Ava and Krista are posing with some Hershey friends. The guy on the right is obviously a Hershey's Kiss. We're still not sure what the connection is between the moose and Hershey's chocolate.

Several rides later, we decided to take refuge from the cold inside the Hershey's Chocolate Factory at Chocolate World. Here we are reprising our spring picture in front of the flying Reece's Pieces. However, by this point Ava was getting tired of wearing her Hershey's Factory Worker hat.

So, we took her home and put her to sleep. That'll teach her.

Baby Steps

The walking aids are beginning to work. For the past few weeks, Ava has been pushing her Fisher-Price Stride-to-Ride Lion and Radio Flyer Walker Wagon all over the house. She often requires help because she gets stuck (we don't have any lengthy runways in our house), but as you can see in this video, her hard work is finally starting to pay off.

Great Grandparents Galore

While we were back visiting Larry's family in Pennsylvania during the holidays, Ava had the opportunity to spend some time with a few of her great grandparents. Great Grandpa Furr took us all out for breakfast at Diener's in downtown Mechanicsburg.

Here is a four-generations picture with Larry's dad and grandfather.

A few days later we took Ava to visit her Great Grandma Pickett. Although it has been months since she's last seen her great grandmother, Ava warmed right up to her.

Ava especially liked Great Grandma Pickett's singing and dancing friend who lives in the closet. No, not one of the Village People, but rather Santa Claus.

After having so many fun people to visit with, we're afraid that Ava must think that her parents are quite boring in comparison.

One Year Old

We recently had some portraits of Ava made to commemorate her coming of age. The pictures were technically taken last Saturday, which marked her 13-month anniversary, but who's counting? Here are a few of our favorites:

Ava's Birthday Party (2 of 2)

While we were in Pennsylvania visiting Larry's family, we celebrated Ava's birthday for the second time. The main event was letting her devour her own birthday cake. Although "devour" may not be the best word to use. "Picking at" would probably more accurately describe it. How dull. Then again, we suppose there's nothing wrong with having her be dainty and ladylike. After some prompting, however, she did eventually start to get a little messy. Here's a video of all the fun.

P.S. Here's what the cake looked like before it was given to Ava to "devour".
